The Support Group Meeting: A Recap

Thank you for all of you suggestions.  I am pretty sure I covered them all.  I talked for long enough TO BE SURE.  I was sick of my own self by the end!  But I did a little presentation using  Have you guys built presentations in Prezi?'s fun.  And so much better than Powerpoint.

Anyways, I wanted a presentation because everyone loves pictures.  I covered everything you told me to:

Who I was before and Who I am now.
What I eat.
What I drink.
What I wish I had known.
The dreaded PB.
How much I exercise.
What my body looks like underneath my clothes.
You guys.
The scale.
What the band can do and what it cannot.
Being a forever fatty.
How much I weigh. How much I've lost.
Goal setting.

It was okay.  It was tough to speak to only 3 band patients and the rest a room of Gastric Bypass.

I did ask Dr. Friedman about the vertical sleeve and his feeling about it...specifically if someone had to have their band removed for whatever reason, would he recommend a VSG or gastric bypass.  He had very strong opinions about the VSG.  I don't want to speak out of turn or mis-quote I won't...but he is not a fan (to put it nicely).  He basically said that Gastric Bypass is the gold standard and a sure thing (at least for the first few years).

So thank you guys again.

I love yous!

  1. I'm sure you did a great job!

  2. Is there a way we can view your presentation? I would love to see it!

  3. I'd like to see it too! I'm glad it went well. I do think it's difficult when most of the room is gastric bypass but a lot of the lifestyle changes are universal...eating better, least they should be. And I'd venture to say ALL the mental parts of losing weight is identical

  4. Oh Amy, now I have to prove your doc wrong about VSG now that I am having my revision tomorrow morning! I do much better under pressure, thank you very much!

I thought long and hard about GBP but I just couldn't have my intestines rerouted. Actually, now that I think about it, if VSG doesn't work, I can always have the GBP or that other one, the switch thing, and than I can become a speaker and be able to talk to everyone in the room about all three procedures. I will have to be a paid speaker though because my husband will leave me if I have to have ANOTHER WLS as I am self-pay! Lets not even go there!

Getting back to you....congrats on giving them what was most definitely the best presentation of their lives!

  5. Congrats on getting up and doing it!!

  6. Amy, I'm sure you were great! I would also love to see your presentation. Can you upload it here somehow?

Also, if you don't mind messaging me on FB about what your doc said about the VSG, I would be so appreciative.

  7. well I had the vsg and have lost 110 lbs in 10 months and don't have issues with PBing and slippages so I am thrilled with my decision.
