Are The Days Of Me Breaking Porch Swings GONE?

Do you guys remember when I broke our front porch swing? You can find that highlight in Amy's history here.

It is very interesting this habit I have of checking weight limits on things like chairs, swings, etc. I literally have to stop and remind myself that I do not weight over 300 pounds...or 250 pounds...or 200.5 pounds. I don't have to be so vigilant anymore with making sure I don't poorly made pieces of furniture.

Damn.

Odd.

This has happened to me several times over the past week or so. Twice when looking at beach chairs and once when looking at this hanging rattan chair from Pier One. Not to mention the hanging "adult" swing Tracey has been wanting for when we....dance....

Although if that swing does ever come to our little house, I will make him climb into the ceiling and reinforce whatever brackets are needed with steel...or titanium, or some spacecraft metal that never breaks.

I am just saying.

  1. Yes, those days are gone. Gone gone gone gone gone! Enjoy your dancing - my sweet hubby can tell you all about reinforcing the ceiling. But in my case - it was for a pot rack. :)

    For now anyway...

  2. knowing what little i do about kinky stuff, ahem, my general opinion is that most people into hanging from the ceiling contraptions tend to have a little more cushion for the pushin...just sayin...so i don't think your skinny ass has anything to worry about.

i had the chair revelation this week. 4 different times i caught myself sitting in chairs with arms and not feeling the arms at all on my sides. very weird feeling to be slip sliding around in chairs.

    yay on 200!

  4. Meh - you'll be fine. I've been hanging from a trapeze in our bedroom since the day I became an overweight elephant. It's just more fun now that I weigh less - I can do more tricks. LOL

  7. Chairs.....LOVE this post! I am constantly checking weight limits also!!!! I broke my work chair once! :) Yeah, that was embarrassing! The whole leg snapped off! Guess it didn't support 300 lbs!!!! Oh, and once at work I stepped up on a child's plastic chair to reach a shelf and my foot went through the seat of the entire chair! Yeah that was embarassing too! YOU on the other hand shouldn't be checkin weight limits!!!!!! Also, I just want to say I always enjoy reading your blog! I LOVE your personality, and you are BEAUTIFUL!

  9. I still do check the weight limits :( I had given up so much because of my stupid weight (roller coasters (love), horse back riding in Hawaii, etc) and I want to get to a place where it doesn't even become a thought in my mind.

BTW. I totally remember that post about your swing and I love how you describe things with Tracey!

  10. I'm with ya... I've never broken a chair but once in college in an auditorium a big guy sat in a chair and it collapsed. One of those push the seat down and sit type seats, like at the movies. I was so humiliated for him and everyone else laughed so loud! :( He sat slouched in his seat the rest of the night... :(

I want to see a picture of the "dancing" chair...

  12. Tell him (if he hasn't figured this out already) that the big work out balls are better for the dancing than the swings are. More and better positions with those. :)

  13. I have a slide into my pool and a diving board I've never been able to use because the weight limit is 200 lbs. That will be such a big NSV to finally be able to use them. Hell, I barely use my pool because I don't like getting into a bathing suit. As if my husband and kids only suspect I'm overweight and the bathing suit would finally confirm their suspicions. LOL.

  16. I have a 'dancing' swing and well, uh, the dancing is really fun in it...but YEAH I was worried about pulling a hole in the ceiling...did some crawling (not me) up in the ceiling and got us a HEAVY DUTY loop for securing it in the cross beam and well..uh, it WORKS! :) !! Hope Shanazing doesn't read this! hehehee
